For history buffs visiting Portugal, Porto is a must. Your strolls along the city's narrow pedestrian streets will take you past Baroque churches and centuries-old squares. Crossing the historic bridge, you'll arrive in the Ribeira district, where you'll have the chance to visit the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, the home of port, the emblematic beverage of the city and Portugal. After Porto, take the road to Évora, Portugal's best-preserved medieval city. Around its 14th-century ramparts stand architectural marvels that transcend time, such as this cloistered cathedral.
