Since 1992, the American company has been taking part in the "Save the Waves" programme. Built around 4 key principles, the programme aims to reduce the amount of waste produced by the ships in the fleet, prevent and educate, comply with environmental protection regulations and adopt a continuous improvement approach.
Through this programme, Celebrity Cruises is making its customers and employees aware of the importance of sustainable tourism.
Following on from the commitments made in the early 90s with Save the Waves, the company is seeking to avoid the use of single-use plastics on board its ships. For example, it will no longer be offering plastic straws from 2019.
