Balboa Park is the perfect starting point for visiting downtown San Diego. Founded in 1868, this natural park is a testament to the city's rich historical heritage. A stroll through the park reveals several buildings with architecture typical of the Spanish colonial period. Balboa Park has many surprises in store for visitors with its 17 museums. Among them, the San Diego Museum of Natural History deals with different themes related to the biodiversity of the lower California. Near the port of San Diego is the Maritime Museum. It is the place to be to admire a vast collection of historic ships. The historic Gaslamp Quarter is also a great place to see the city's rich built heritage. On your way back to downtown, make a stop at the San Diego Railroad Station. The station opened in 1915 and charms visitors with its colonial style. Step inside the building to see a ceiling with a large arch. The high ceilings, meanwhile, are made of ceramic and redwood.
