Port Everglades is located in the southeastern end of Fort Lauderdale, between the 17th Street Causeway and I-595 highway, about a 5-minute drive from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (GPS coordinates: 26.0928, -80.1268). The port features multiple terminals spread across two main areas: Northport and Midport. Northport includes Terminal 2 (used by Princess Cruises) and Terminal 4, recently renovated to exclusively serve Disney Cruise Line ships. Midport, the larger area, hosts Terminals 18 (Royal Caribbean), 19, 21, 25 (Celebrity Cruises), 26, and 29. Terminal 18 is one of the largest cruise terminals in the world, purpose-built to accommodate Royal Caribbean’s largest ships.
Port Everglades is extremely accessible. From Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL), the port is reachable in under 10 minutes by taxi, shuttle, or rideshare. Nearby hotels also offer complimentary shuttle transfers to the terminals. From Miami International Airport (MIA), travel time ranges from 35 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. For guests arriving by car, the port is accessible via Interstate 595 East (exit US-1 North or SE 17th Street), with secured entrances at Eller Drive, Spangler Blvd, or Eisenhower Blvd. A public bus (Broward Transit Route 1) also connects FLL airport to Northport.
Port Everglades offers several official parking facilities, both covered and open-air, with a total capacity of over 5,500 spaces. The Heron Garage, located in Northport, primarily serves Terminals 2 and 4, with covered walkways providing direct access to the facilities. The Palm Garage in Midport is close to Terminals 19, 21, 25, 26, and 29. Free shuttles connect the garages to the more distant terminals. Next to Terminal 18, Royal Caribbean offers a dedicated parking area. Rates are competitive, with discounts for long-term parking. Private providers also offer budget-friendly alternatives with complimentary shuttles.
Terminals at Port Everglades are well-equipped to ensure comfort and efficiency. Travelers will find air-conditioned waiting areas, services for passengers with reduced mobility, luggage storage, free Wi-Fi, vending machines, and dining options. Some terminals, like Terminal 25 for Celebrity Cruises, include advanced features: digital check-in kiosks, VIP lounges, and family zones. Terminal 4, Disney-themed, provides an immersive experience from the moment you arrive. The port also offers porter services for luggage and a streamlined security process with dedicated lines for each cruise line. All terminals are accessible by elevators and escalators, with clear signage throughout.
Cruises departing from Fort Lauderdale cover a wide range of destinations. The most popular itineraries head to the Caribbean, with must-see stops like St. Maarten, Antigua, Barbados, Cozumel (Riviera Maya), Grand Cayman, or Roatán. Some routes explore Central America with calls in Mexico, Belize, or Costa Rica. Transatlantic cruises are also available, often sailing to Spain, Portugal, or Italy in spring or fall. Longer journeys may even take you to South America or through the Panama Canal.
Port Everglades is home to around ten major cruise lines. Royal Caribbean sails from Terminal 18 with its largest ships, such as Oasis of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas, offering an impressive range of onboard activities like surf simulators, zip lines, and aqua shows. Celebrity Cruises operates from Terminal 25 with its upscale fleet, exclusive “The Retreat” areas, and high-end cuisine. Princess Cruises at Terminal 2 provides a more traditional and elegant cruise experience with great service and a relaxed atmosphere. MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line alternate between Terminals 19, 21, 26, and 29 depending on the season. Disney Cruise Line uses Terminal 4 and delivers a unique family-friendly voyage with Disney characters, kids’ clubs, and immersive shows. Holland America Line and Carnival also have a strong presence in Fort Lauderdale.
The best time to cruise from Fort Lauderdale depends on your destination. Caribbean and Bahamas cruises sail year-round, with peak season from December to April to escape the North American winter. May through August is also popular for families. Transatlantic cruises typically depart in spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) to avoid rough seas. Longer routes to South America or the Panama Canal usually run from November to March. Thanks to its subtropical climate, Fort Lauderdale always offers sunny departures.
Make the most of your time in Fort Lauderdale by exploring its many attractions. Las Olas Boulevard will charm you with its art galleries, trendy boutiques, and gourmet restaurants. Riverwalk, running along the New River, is ideal for a peaceful stroll through downtown. You can also visit Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, a historic estate set within a lush tropical garden. The soft sandy beaches are just minutes away, especially Fort Lauderdale Beach with its lively promenade. For a unique experience, hop on a water taxi to admire the waterfront mansions along the canals. Families will enjoy the Museum of Discovery and Science, perfect for young explorers. Finally, sailing enthusiasts can marvel at the mega-yachts docked at Pier Sixty-Six Marina, right across from the cruise port.
The culinary scene in Fort Lauderdale is as diverse as its population. You'll find everything from fresh seafood served in waterfront venues to fusion restaurants blending Latin American, Asian, and Mediterranean influences. Las Olas Boulevard offers a wide variety of dining options, from elegant brunches to trendy rooftop bars. Local specialties include conch chowder, crab cakes, and tropical cocktails like the Key Lime Mojito. Art lovers can explore the NSU Art Museum, while nature enthusiasts will appreciate the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, nestled between the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, just steps from the port. Fort Lauderdale also offers plenty of activities for kids. The Museum of Discovery and Science features interactive exhibits, a flight simulator, and an IMAX theater. North of town, Butterfly World lets you walk among thousands of tropical butterflies. Shallow beaches and water taxi rides through the canals make for memorable adventures the whole family can enjoy.
