The port is located about 9 km from the city center and 13 km from Southampton Airport, easily accessible via the M27 and M3 motorways toward London.
From London, you can drive to Southampton via the M3 and M27 motorways, with clear signage to the terminals.
By train, frequent services run from London Waterloo to Southampton Central (approx. 1h45). From there, you can take a taxi (around 10 minutes) or a shuttle if provided by your cruise line.
From London airports (Heathrow or Gatwick), you can take:
– a train with a connection through London,
– or opt for private transfers or shared shuttles, which connect the airport directly to the Southampton port (expect around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the airport).
Southampton Port offers secure parking options directly adjacent to the terminals, reserved for passengers of certain cruise lines like MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania, Disney Cruise Line, or Regent Seven Seas Cruises. For other lines such as Cunard or Princess Cruises, a valet service is generally available, with drop-off at the terminal and transfer to a secure parking lot just a few minutes' walk away. In both cases, no shuttle is needed.
Further parking lots, operated by private providers, are also available and often include a free shuttle or require a short taxi ride to the terminal. It is highly recommended to book online in advance, especially during peak travel periods.
Southampton has five modern cruise terminals — City, Mayflower, Ocean, QEII, and Horizon — all close to one another, allowing the port to handle the simultaneous embarkation of several large ships. Each terminal features clear signage and efficient service with multilingual check-in counters, porter assistance, and well-established security procedures.
Facilities include comfortable waiting areas (up to 1,000 seats in some terminals), accessible restrooms, assistance for guests with reduced mobility, and free Wi‑Fi throughout. You’ll also find cafés, small shops, and dining options. Outside, passengers have easy access to taxis, private shuttles, or public transportation.
Functional and well-organized, Southampton’s terminals ensure a smooth and pleasant experience from arrival to embarkation.
Southampton is the departure point for a wide range of itineraries: cruises in Northern Europe (Scandinavia, Baltic Sea), Norwegian fjords cruises, Arctic cruises (to Iceland or Greenland), South Atlantic cruises (Canaries, Madeira), and even long crossings. It is also the iconic departure point for the historic transatlantic crossing to New York, regularly operated by Cunard aboard the famous Queen Mary 2, one of the last true transatlantic liners still in operation. Other cruise lines also offer long-haul itineraries from Southampton to the Americas, the Caribbean, or South America.

The city boasts a rich maritime and medieval heritage: visit the SeaCity Museum dedicated to Titanic history and Southampton’s global role, about a 20-minute walk from the port or accessible via a free hourly shuttle.
Explore the medieval walls via the QE2 Mile or take a guided Titanic Trail tour, visit the Tudor House & Garden (12th century) and God’s House Tower (formerly a prison, now an art gallery). The Southampton City Art Gallery, in the Civic Centre next to SeaCity, houses over 5,300 European works spanning six centuries.
Before embarkation, treat yourself to a typical British culinary experience: fish & chips by the waterfront, a pint in a traditional pub in the Oxford Street district, or a visit to Unity Brewing Co., a renowned local brewery. For fine dining enthusiasts, Southampton also offers a few modern spots with harbor views.
On the cultural side, the city offers a great mix of history and nature. Stay at a charming boutique hotel like Pig-in the Wall, nestled in the old city walls, or explore nearby destinations: the New Forest, the Isle of Wight, or the city of Portsmouth are all within an hour and ideal for a pre- or post-cruise excursion.
