Belgium is a Western European country bordered by the Netherlands and France. Having gained its independence from the Netherlands in 1830, it has inherited Dutch culture and gastronomy, featuring dairy products and traditional meat dishes. Known for the small town of Bruges, the adventures of Tintin and the summer music festival, Belgium attracts visitors for its compilation of human warmth, its status as a cultural crossroads in Europe, not to mention its Ardennes forests and varied North Sea landscapes.

Famous for its beer and lively nightlife, Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium, but also of Flanders and Europe. It is characterized by 17th-century buildings such as the Atomium, which was reopened in 2006, and by the Eiffel Tower of Brussels, which offers a breathtaking view both inside and out. The Horta Museum, built by the famous Belgian architect Victor Horta, as well as the Sewer Museum, Musical Instruments Museum, Tram Museum, Comic Strip Museum, Magritte Museum and Gueuze Museum also await lovers of architecture and culture. Brussels is a seductive image of Belgium: surrealistic, friendly and liberating, like the Grand-Place, one of the most beautiful in the world.
The famous city of Bruges, meanwhile, is regarded by tourists as Little Venice, due to the structure of its buildings and canals. Built around the 12th century, the Basilica of the Holy Blood makes Bruges unique with its relic of the blood of Jesus Christ. The Cathedral of Saint-Sauveur is appreciated for its historic works and impressive Gothic buildings. Loppem Castle also opens up to you in a world worthy of a Disney film.
Set in a welcoming region where art and design coexist, Antwerp is a place steeped in history, with its Platin-Moretus museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its classic typography museum. The Museum aan de Stroom, housed in one of Antwerp's most beautiful buildings, is the city's largest museum. In addition to its secret Beguinage garden, Antwerp also boasts a historic zoo, known as one of the world's oldest, located near the Antwerp-Centrale station.
In Belgium, nature also has everything to please. Culminating at an altitude of 694 metres, the Signal de botrange is particularly noteworthy for its panoramic views. Made up of the Eupeun, Gileppe and Bûtgentbach lakes, 3 of the 5 largest bodies of water in the country, the Belgian landscape is decorated by dense purple bower. The Eastern Cantons, 100 kilometers long and 30 kilometers wide, are distinguished by their varied landscapes. Covering an area of 4,500 hectares, the high fens synchronize with the birch forest to form a nature reserve that is unique in Europe. Since its creation in 1971, the Haut Fagnes-Eifel Nature Park has played an important role in the country's economy, thanks to the millions of visitors who discover it all year round.
Belgium has a mild, humid climate. Summer temperatures are similar to those in northern France, in the 18°C range, with frequent rainfall. Apart from the omnipresent sunshine, this is the season to discover abbeys, stroll through picturesque villages and soak up the country's history. Winter is a time of rain, snow and frost. The ideal time to visit Brussels is spring, when the Japanese cherry trees are in full bloom.
Belgium is renowned for its incomparable gastronomy, which combines simplicity in the dishes with originality in the way they are cooked. Waterzooi - a typically Belgian fish and chicken broth - and tarte à l'djote - a savoury pie made from dumplings and cheese - are two of the most popular dishes on the menu. Belgium's main claim to fame is its beer. Not only is Belgium's hop country fertile ground for Trappist beers, but every town and village has its own brewery.
