Haiti, a beautiful Caribbean destination
Often referred to as the pearl of the Caribbean or the jewel of the Antilles, Haiti is the neighbor of the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, leaving the western part to the Dominican Republic. Haiti is also made up of a number of islets, such as Île-à-Vache and many others. Its capital is Port-au-Prince, located at the end of the island of Hispaniola. The land is distinguished by its fabulous scenery. Large stretches of fine sand and a surface covered with dense forest still enjoy their natural splendor. Haiti is also marked by its history. Several of the island's most famous sites commemorate a past that was both painful and heroic. There is, for example, the historic Milot National Park, whose monuments have been classified as Unesco World Heritage sites since 1982. They were built by slaves as a refuge from French reprisals. There's also the National Pantheon Museum in Port-au-Prince. It preserves the remains of Haitian heroes and their artefacts. A fitting tribute to the "fathers of the fatherland". Haiti attracts tourists in particular thanks to its sunny climate almost all year round. This makes it ideal for swimming and lounging on the white sandy beaches. Pilgrims also come for its sacred sites. Indeed, Haiti is home to a place where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to a lost traveller. The village of Saut-d'Eau welcomes thousands of visitors every July. Haiti is home to countless cultural and historical treasures.

Haiti is a country that attracts many visitors thanks to its impressive tourism potential. A stay in Haiti offers you the privilege of living in the midst of a naturally beautiful setting. As you explore its wilderness, you'll discover a dense forest where animal and plant species abound. You can also relax on its verdant plains when you've finished surveying its rugged mountains. End the day with an invigorating stroll along the heavenly beaches. Perhaps you'd like to do something different the next day? A visit to Haiti's architectural treasures will undoubtedly do you good. These monuments can be found in the Milot National Historic Park. As well as admiring the beauty and originality of these 19th-century buildings, such as the Citadelle la Ferrière and the Palais Sans-souci, you'll also witness the stories that Haitians have lived through in the past.
But don't leave this pearl of the Antilles without visiting its capital. This is the center of local culture. Here you can admire the Marché de Fer (Iron Market). It's an allegorical building of the city of Port-au-Prince. You'll also pass through art galleries displaying voodoo and naive art. Continuing westwards, you'll have the chance to end your day on the Arcadins coast. Try your hand at water sports, or just relax in one of the many seaside resorts.
The gastronomic art of a country is one of the factors that attract tourists to visit. Speaking of Haiti's, this is not to be overlooked. Haitian cuisine offers a wide variety of dishes. These are concocted from local produce such as rice, potatoes, bananas and Haitian black mushrooms. However, the cuisine is infused with French culinary art. And the spicy taste of the dishes is reminiscent of Creole specialties. The best-known recipes are riz djon djon, in which the stems of Haitian black mushrooms impart their color to the rice. There's also patate bread, a mixture of banana and potato. On Sundays, expect to taste joumou soup or pumpkin soup for lunch. But Haitians also use a lot of pork fat in their culinary preparations. It's a way for them to add more flavor to their dishes. For example, tasso is goat meat fried in pork fat. You'll also discover the flavor of griot, commonly known as fried pork. To enjoy all these Haitian wonders, it's important to choose the right time to visit. For a favorable climate that's free of humidity and pleasantly sunny, go between December and February. The tropical climate of the Caribbean is bound to spoil you at these times.
